About this course
Second Oud Beginner group for students joining later in the term. Same syllabus as Group 1 — fundamental techniques, Maqam system, and traditional and popular repertoire. Students must have their own instrument.
What you'll cover
This is the second Oud Beginner group, opened later in the term and running at 2:00 pm, straight after the midday class. The syllabus is the same as Group 1: fundamental technique, the Maqam Music System, and the eight fundamental maqamaat through traditional and popular repertoire.
It suits two kinds of student — anyone who came to us after the first group had filled, and anyone whose Saturday simply works better in the early afternoon than at midday.
Joining this group does not put you behind. It starts from the beginning, moves at its own pace, and is taught to the same plan by the same method as Group 1.
Bring your own oud, and ask a teacher before buying if you have not chosen one. Arabic Music Theory I at 11:00 pairs well with either beginner group and is often taken alongside.
Places are limited to eight to twelve students. Enrolment opens on the open day and closes when the class is full.
If you're unsure whether this is the right level, we're happy to arrange a fifteen-minute conversation to place you correctly.
